

Football Specific Guidelines
California Bylaw for all Outdoor Sports in the Fall (503 K)
For Football Only
(b) During the first three days of practice or testing activity, helmets shall be the only protective equipment student-athletes may wear. During the next two days of practice or testing activity, helmets, and shoulder pads shall be the only protective equipment student-athletes may wear. Student-athletes may practice in full pads on the sixth day of practice or testing activity.
Football Acclimatization Breakdown:
Day 1: Helmets only - One (1) on Field Practice no longer than Two (2) Hours
Day 2: Helmets only - One (1) on Field Practice no longer than Two (2) Hours
Day 3: Helmets only - One (1) on Field Practice no longer than Two (2) Hours

Contact with sleds, blocking shields, and bags to teach technique and for agility/conditioning purposes only.
Day 4: Helmets & Shoulder Pads - One (1) on Field Practice no longer than Two (2) Hours
Day 5: Helmets & Shoulder Pads - One (1) on Field Practice no longer than Two (2) Hours

Contact with sleds, blocking shields, and bags. Player to player tackling or blocking is not recommended until day 6.
NUMBER OF FOOTBALL PRACTICE DAYS: Green Book Rule 2201
A. There shall be no football games until the team has had 14 days of practice before the first game. Each individual student on the team must have had at least 10 days of practice before being allowed to compete in a game. No Sunday practice is permitted.
SCRIMMAGE LIMITATIONS: Green Book Rule 2202
No individual student shall participate in an interscholastic scrimmage before his/her 10th day of practice for that particular school. Scrimmage is defined as practice where the teams alternate in carrying the ball, downs are not counted, no score is kept, and the coaches are on the field directing play.
Schools under the jurisdiction of the San Diego Section shall not play ineligible students in any interscholastic scrimmage. This includes students currently on a Sit Out Period (SOP) - (SDS Bylaw Article V (A))
